Mother’s Day Facts About Lovable Koalas and How to Take One Home

Take a Koala Home from the Peninsula Home & Garden Expo

At “Koalaty Heating,” we’re proud to recognize the Koala as a company mascot, and a symbol of the importance of achieving global climate sustainability. The lovable marsupial represents our shared commitment to making your home a more comfortable and healthier habitat.

We’ll be giving away the most incredibly soft and cuddly, 12” Koala stuffed plush animals at the Peninsula Home & Garden Expo from May 13-15 to anyone who schedules a new heating or cooling system for installation before August 2022. Here’s the perfect way to make this Summer a lot more bearable for your mother and your family. With our Home Show special, you’ll not only take home a new Koala friend but take $250 off the price of a koalifying new HVAC system .**

A few fascinating facts about Koalas —and their mothers —right on time for Mother’s Day!

1. Called “Joeys,” baby Koalas crawl into their mother’s pouch immediately after birth, and stay there for about six months.

That’s how long it takes for them to open their eyes, grow ears and hair, and walk (or waddle) on their own. Unlike kangaroo pouches, which open towards the top, koala pouches are located towards the bottom of their bodies and open outward.

2.
Taking a Ride.

When they’re about six months old, joeys venture out into the world, although they stay pretty close to their mother—usually by riding on her back

3. Koalas can sleep up to 18 hours a day.

Koalas survive on eucalyptus leaves as their main source of nourishment and actually smell like eucalyptus. It’s because the green leaves are so low in nutrients that koalas need more sleep than most animals which basically helps them conserve energy.

4. Koalas aren’t exactly Couch Potatoes, but they could be.

Extra thick fur on their bottoms and a pad of cartilage at the base of their spines provide cushioning so koalas can sit comfortably on branches for hours. Unlike humans, koalas also have two thumbs on each hand! Having two opposable thumbs makes it much easier for them to grip the trees and navigate from branch to branch.
